Table of Contents

Study Checklist of a Straight-A Student

No. 1: A Bottle of Water

It is well known that our brain works better when we are hydrated. That is why it is good to have a bottle of water next to you and with you whereever you go. Because oftentimes, what is out of sight, is out of mind.

No. 2: A Cup of Tea or Coffee

Having a hot cup of coffe or tea next to you, that is  warming your hands and at the same time smelling deliscous and keeping yyou active and going due to their caffeine content is just a must have for a successful study session.

If you are not a fan of coffee, there are some alternatives you can try, like green tea, black tea or matcha (I just love matcha with cashew milk).

No. 3: A Charger or a Powerbank

If you are studying indoors, make sure it is always plugged in. If you choose to study outdoors, bring a powerbank with you.

No. 4: Noice Cancelling Earplugs or Headphones

With headphones, you can listen to your favorite study playlist or Study With Me videos .

Earplugs block out background noise if you need absolute silence to focus on your studies.

No. 5: Stationery

Pens, highlighters, pencils, paper, and all necessary supplies.

No. 6: A Timer or Clock

Helps you manage study sessions and take regular breaks. So it’s esepcially useful when you use the Pomodoro study method.

No. 7: A Notebook or a Planner

A notebook can be useful to take notes as you go on what you’ve learned, to maybe jot down your thoughts, to arrange them in a specific order and make them look neatly. + it’s practical so you can take it everywhere you go.

A planner is essentials to schedule your classes, and homework or assignments when they are due.

No. 8: Study Materials

Books, notes and other study materials that are essentials for your study session. Don’t forget your laptop/tablet or phone.

The Perfect Study Break

These are some ideas on how to make the most out of your study breaks, no matter how long they are.

If you opt for a 20-30 minute study session, you will probably have a 5-10 minute break. On the other hand, if you do a 1.5-2 hour study session, you will have a 20-30 minute break.

For a 5-10min Study Break

  • Exercise: Get up and stretch. Do a few squats or jump rope for 2 minutes.
  • Light a candle or smell something that helps you reset (for me, that would be my favorite perfume).
  • Open a window and let fresh air in.
  • Listen to your favorite song or playlist.
  • Make a healthy snack or a protein shake and sip it.
  • Look at your affirmations for a quick motivation boost to help you keep going.
  • Check your text messages and text messages only.

For a 15-30min Study Break

  • Exercise: do a quick workout. You can also do a 8-20 minute yoga or pilates workout following tutorials on YT.
  • Eating: During your study sessions snack on foods that are high in protein, fibre and healthy fats.
  • Take a nap: a 20-minute nap should do the trick.
  • Clean up and get organized: get up and do some tidying up.

Extra: What NOT to Do on Your Study Break

Social media: Social media platforms (all of them) are incredibly distracting and attention-hungry, and yes they feed on your attention and your precious time.

Streaming services: Netflix and other streaming platforms are definitely not the best choice for a study break.

High-carb/Junk food: Sugar and other high-carb foods may give you an initial energy spike, but it is soon followed by a crash.

Thank you so much for sticking around!
